AXANTHIC

Genetics: Simple Recessive

Heterozygous look normal, Homozygous appear with the Axanthic trait.

Morph Variations:

Axanthic Pastel

VPI Axanthic

SK Axanthic

Snow (Axanthic Albino)

Axanthic Spider

Axanthic Bee (Spider pastel axanthic)

Axanthic is a color mutation, these are lacking yellow pigment.  There are two main lines of Axanthic, VPI an SK, the different lines of Axanthic are not compatible with each other.  A VPI to a SK Axanthic will not produce Axanthics, you would get double hets.  The VPI are the best looking and tend to hold their color better than the SK line in my opinion.  These guys are usually Black and silver as babies but then tend to ‘brown’ out a bit as adults.  These guys are completely lacking the yellow pigment and so far have only been crossed with Albino to create snowballs.  There are people working on crossing them with the hypomelanistic (ghost) trait to create a ‘true ghost’.  The Pastel Axanthic really seems to hold its color well, and hopefully will allow us to keep that stunning white and black snake we fell in love with when they hatched!

We have a ‘white pastel’ that we are hoping to prove out as an axanthic pastel!  He is currently breeding and this would be our own line of axanthic, since neither of his parents were known to be het for axanthic.
